Sunday, December 15th 2013 marks the firtst 24 hour in the ocean. Fedor has called already twice to report his progress. Here are the summary of the
phone calls:
Saturday night: “From the moment I left, spent 13 hours on the oars trying to get away from the Chilean coast. The wind was south-west, 10-15 knots making it difficult to proceed towards the west. I could only reach 1.5 knots when rowing in the headwind. As soon as I stop rowing, the boat would slow down to 1 knot and turn towards back to the coast. During the day met 5 ships advacing towards Valparaiso. I must manevour the boat so can@@apos@@t use the sea anchor. During the day couldn@@apos@@t rest for a minute”.
On Sunday morning: “Survived the night. Very cold, wet, pissing rain. Slept only 15 minutes at a time. But thankful that everything is all right, and works well. The autopilot keeps the course. For the last 24 hours I covered 18 miles west and 8 miles north. My goals this week is to be get away as far as possible from the coast. Around the sunrise the wind turned in the north-east direction, the boat is drifitng in south-west (215-220 degrees). This is a good sitution for me, allowing for a little nap. I actually was able to stretch my full body laying in the cabin. The sleep was much needed. During the night, met a few local fishermen who thought it would be fun to get close to “Tourgoyak”. I had to raise my voice to scare them away. All in all everything is well, with God@@apos@@s help.”
