The rowboat “AKROS” is at the Northern edge of a powerful cyclone. The eye of the cyclone is 10 degrees to the South. There, the wind is 60 knots and the waves are 11-12 metres. Nearer to Fedor, the wind is 35 knots, gusting to 45 knots (80km per hour), and the waves are 5-6 metres. The foul weather will last for 24 hours.
Toward the weekend, a new, less powerful cyclone will approach from the North, but the Northerly winds and waves from the South (the remnants of the current storm) will create difficult and chaotic waves which will reach 4-5 metres in height.
The current storm is the most powerful since Fedor left the shores of New Zealand on 6 December 2018. It will be a serious trial for the boat and for Fedor Konyukhov.
Cape Horn is 2,750 nautical miles away (4,950 km).
Fedor has travelled 2,475 miles (4,455 km) from the starting point.
