An SMS message from Fedor Konyukhov:
“The ocean has merged with the sky. The horizon is gone. There is no ocean, no sky. Solid flying water”.
Fedor Konyukhov’s boat is on the way of a whole series of storms that originated off the coast of Antarctica, on the traverse of New Zealand and moving from west to east with great speed and increasing power. These storms will attack the boat for 4 days. Cyclones are moving the same course and along the same route as Fedor – towards the Drake Passage.
Wind speed is 50 knots, gusting 60 knots. Wave 7-8 meters. Fedor is in the aft compartment of his boat, the boat goes with the wind and waves. In the next few hours, the wind should go to the due west (270°) and decrease to 35 knots, but then will strengthen again to 40 knots for the following 24 hours. The break between the storms is predicted only for the night from Monday to Tuesday next week (March 25-26).
