Open 85 Alye Parusa is getting ready for Antarctica Cup Yacht Race

Maxi yacht “Trading Network Alye Paura” has been recently re-launched into the Dock 1 at Pendennis Shipyard Ltd in Falmouth, UK. This year our boat is getting ready for another ultimate challenge – Race around Antarctica. Since it is racing campaign we concentrated on the boat’s performance and main focus was placed on standing rigging and sails. The boat will receive: new set of PBO standing rigging. Original standing rigging was made of stainless steel rod which very heavy and handicapped boat’s performance in light conditions. In order to fit new PBO shrouds onto existing mast we had to replace old steel tip-cups for pin to pin fixation and modify spreader ends. All rigging modifications were done by our rigging partner Plymouth based company Allspars under the close supervision of Navtec North Europe.

This year we decided not to use B&G hydraulic pilot which performed not satisfactory during previous round the world campaign. Although B&G provided us with biggest pump they produce and heavy-duty ram - still it was not enough keep the boat on course in heavy weather conditions. This year we went for Wills Ridley Hydraulic Autopilot Steering system which often use on mega yachts and fisherman trawlers.

The plan is to depart from UK to Australia in the middle of October 2007. She will be delivered from Falmouth to Australia, rather then shipped.

This is our 4th season at Pendennis Shipyard and we are enjoying benefits of fast developing shipyard with new facilities: two 75m dry docks, a new three story building containing workshops and storage, two new concrete piers to accommodate a 400 tonne travel hoist. PSY had appointed new project manager to run our boat refit campaign - Mr. Roeland Vroon to make sure we get to the starting line on time and fully prepared. Roeland is a profession sailor and with the attitude “treat your boat like I would prepare my own boat” we feel very secure. This is what we like about Pendennis Shipyard and that is why we are coming back.
